Sunil Kumar Sood has been appointed General Manager, Central Railway with effect from December 31, 2013.

He was earlier Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway, Chennai. Sood had also served as Divisional Railway Manager, Jodhpur Division, North Western Railway, Chief Workshop Manager, Jamalpur, Eastern Railway, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Moradabad Division, Northern Railway, earlier.
He also worked for eight years each at the Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala and the South-Eastern Railway after joining Indian Railways in 1978.

Pradeep Kumar Saxena has taken over charge as full-fledged General Manager of South Western Railway (SWR).
Before taking over as General Manager, SWR, Saxena was Principal Chief Engineer, Central Railway, Mumbai.
Saxena, an Indian Railway Service of Engineer (IRSE) of 1977 batch, graduated in civil engineering from Rewa Engineering College, Madhya Pradesh.

Freedom fighter and veteran urdu journalist Ishrat Ali Siddiqui dead
Freedom fighter, veteran Journalist and Padm Shree awardee Ishrat Ali Siddiqui died in Lucknow today.
He was 95. Ex editor of National Urdu daily 'Qaumi Awaz', Siddiqui was admitted to a hospital after he suffered a fracture on 24th December. His burial will take place in Lucknow this afternoon.

West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairman Justice A.K. Ganguly on Friday resigned from the post of honorary professor of the National University of Juridical Sciences, a student of which had made allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Some members of the faculty were expressing their reservation about my continuation. So I have sent my resignation today,” Justice Ganguly told PTI in Kolkata.’

The process for removal of  Ganguly as WBHRC chairman moved a step forward on 2 Jan 2014 with the Union Cabinet approved a proposal for sending a Presidential reference to the Supreme Court for a probe into the allegation of sexual misconduct against a law intern who was the student of the NUJS.

The proposal will be sent to President Pranab Mukherjee who will then send the matter to the Chief Justice of India seeking a probe into the issue based on the three points raised in the reference.

M.S. Dhir of AAP elected new Speaker of Delhi Assembly
37 MLAs voted for M.S. Dhir while BJP candidate Jagdish Mukhi got the support of 32 MLAs from his party and ally Akali Dal.

The House has a strength of 70 members including the Speaker. Immediately after Dhir's election to the post, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and BJP leader Harsh Vardhan greeted the new Speaker and escorted him to the podium.

The speaker conducted a voice vote twice following objections by BJP MLAs.

The minority Aam Aadmi Party government yesterday had crossed the first hurdle in the Delhi Assembly when its confidence motion sailed through easily with the backing of the members of Congress, JD(U) and an independent 28 AAP members along with seven of Congress, a lone JD(U) member and an independent had stood in support while 31 members of BJP and one member of its ally Akali Dal were against it.
