Star India replaces Sahara as New sponsor of Indian cricket team

Star India will replace Sahara as the title sponsor of the Indian cricket team, according to Gautam Roy, member, Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The title sponsor takes effect from January 1.

Qatar launches free telephone service for citizens travelling abroad

Qatar has launched a free telephone number service meant for its citizens travelling to 82 countries.

The first stage of the service covers 82 countries while the second will include a further 16 nations, the Information Systems and Technology Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The director of the Information Systems and Technology Department Saif -Al-Kuwari Said --

The launch of the free telephone number service for citizens during their overseas travels is an addition to the Tawasul (communication) service, realising the Ministry’s vision of serving citizens and caring for their interests abroad.

A welcome message will be sent by the Ministry to a citizen as soon as he or she lands in any country.

Agreements have been entered into with 82 countries, in cooperation with Qatar telco Ooredoo, to provide the service, the Gulf Times report said, without naming the nations.

Sumit Bose appointed as Finance Secretary

  • The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has appointed Sumit Bose, a 1976 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer, as Finance Secretary.
  • Bose would replace R S Gujral (1976, Haryana cadre), who superannuated recently.
  • The country top Finance man brings with him, not only the seniority but variegated experience in his chequered career spanning above 37 years.
  • Arvind Mayaram (economic affairs) and  Ratan P Watal (expenditure) are the other two secretaries. ACC also upgraded  as the additional secretary (finance) in the department of atomic energy.
  • The post of the finance secretary fell vacant after R.S. Gujral who was also looking after the expenditure department, retired last month. Watal took over as secretary in the expenditure department.
  • Educated at the Doon School, Dehradun (class of 1970), St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and the London School of Economics, Bose had joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1976.


Miss Venezuela Alyz Henrich became in 13th edition of the annual Miss Earth.

Miss Venezuela Alyz Henrich was crowned with the pageant of Miss Earth 2013 at the Versailles Palace, Philippines. She was crowned with the pageant of Miss World by Tereza Fajksova, the Miss Earth 2012 from Czech Republic. 

With this winning, Alyz Henrich has joined the roster of beauty queens and will be an ambassador for environmental preservation.

India's participant for the pageant was Sobhita Dhulipala, who failed to make it in the list of top 16. arlier, she won the Miss Photogenic and the Miss Eco Beauty Title contests.

Ali Osman Taha resigned as Vice President of Sudan

Ali Osman Taha, the Vice President of Sudan resigned to pave way for the new Government.

  • His resignation was announced by the Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir in Khartoum.
  • He resigned and vacated his office at the presidency ahead of his cabinet reshuffle.
  • Taha has been the first Vice President of Sudan, the second highest political party. 
  • He was the main negotiator of Sudan's Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005, which led to the end of Sudanese Civil War.
  • Taha has been replaced by Lieutenant General Bakri Hassan Saleh. The second Vice President selected is Hasbo Mohamed Abdulrahman and the parliament head is Alfateh Ezziddin.


Pepsi Co India appoints D Shivakumar as Chairman & CEO

  • Pepsi Co India has roped in former Nokia senior executive D. 
  • Shivakumar to head the India region.
  • He has been appointed as the Chairman and CEO of India region with immediate effect. 
  • He will be responsible for deploying the Rs 33,000 crore investment in India that PepsiCo announced last month
  • However, Gautham Mukkavilli, current General Manager for PepsiCo India Beverages, has been named the senior Vice-President , Business Transformation – AMEA at Pepsi Co.
