Former India captain(1983 World Cup winning all-rounder) Kapil Dev on Saturday inaugurated a
new nine-hole golf course in Pune at the Blue Ridge township in Hinjewadi.
The course, developed by Paranjape Schemes
(Construction) Limited, is built on one lakh square-feet area.
Some of the main features of the course include
250-yard golf academy area with practice facilities and target greens, bunkers
at 100, 150 and 200 yards; 2000 metres of cart path to connect each hole.
Three
lakes are also a part of this Golf Course.
Waqar, Gilchrist to be inducted into ICC Hall of Fame
Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis and ex-Australia
wicket kepeer Adam Gilchrist will be inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame next
week.
Waqar and Gilchrist become the 70th and 71st male
members of the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
Waqar will join the exclusive club during the first
Twenty20 International between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Dubai International
Cricket Stadium on December 11, while two days later in Perth, Gilchrist will
be honoured during the tea interval of the third Ashes Test at the WACA.
They will become the first two inductees of 2013-14,
while two more names will be announced later this month.
Kerala topped the 29th Junior National Athletics
Championships
Kerala emerged as the champion state in the 29th Junior
National Athletics Championships which concluded on 7 December 2013. The
championship was held at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
Kerala ended the competition with a 585 score, way ahead
of the second placed Tamil Nadu.
Haryana was placed third.
However Kerala has been the champion
for 19th time in the 29 year old history of the event.
Australia finished off England to take 2-0 lead
Australia finished off England in 11 overs on Monday to
win the second Test by 218 runs and take a 2-0 series lead into Perth, where
they’re aiming to regain the Ashes with a third straight win.
England had been behind the game at Adelaide since
dropping three catches late on day one to let Australia off the hook after
taking three quick wickets.
Australia recovered to make 570-9 declared, then
Mitchell Johnson took 7-40 to skittle England for 172.
Australia cruised to 132-3 in its second innings before
Clarke declared again, 10 minutes before play on day four, and setting England
an improbable 531 to win.
Vasundhara Raje will
be ac CM sworn in December 13
Vasundhara Raje, the BJP's chief minister-elect in Rajasthan,
will be sworn-in Dec 13. She met Governor Margaret Alva Tuesday and staked
claim to form the government in the state.
This would be second time that Raje is to be the chief
minister of the state. Her first chief ministerial stint in the desert state
was from 2003 to 2008.
The BJP legislature party Monday unanimously elected
Vasundhara Raje as its leader. She is also the president of the party's state
unit.
The oath taking ceremony is likely to be held on Janpath
near the state assembly and senior BJP leaders, including its prime ministerial
candidate Narendra Modi, are expected to attend the ceremony.
CCI imposes Rs 1,773-cr penalty on Coal India
The country's fair trade regulator has imposed a penalty
of Rs 1,773 crore on Coal India for abusing its dominant position.
Sources said the Competition Commission of India issued
the order after investigating two complaints filed by customers of CIL and its
subsidiaries.
The first is by Maharashtra State Power Generation
Company (MAHAGENCO) against CIL and Mahanadi Coalfields and Western Coalfields
against abuse of their dominant market position.
The other complaint was by the Gujarat State Electricity
Corporation.
Also, protests have been voiced against CIL’s unilateral
right to terminate supplies, seeking security deposits and the mechanism for settlement
of disputes between the supplier and the buyer.
Coal India accounts for over 80 per cent of the 530
million tonnes of coal produced in the country.
India gives Nepal Rs 374 million to control floods, build embankments
India on Monday handed over Rs 374.68 million to Nepal to
build embankments on three border rivers to control floods affecting both
neighbours.
The constructions along the Lalbakeya, Bagmati and Kamla
rivers in southern Nepal are being undertaken in accordance with the decisions
taken by the India-Nepal Joint Committee on Inundation and Flood Management.
Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae, handed over a cheque in
Kathmandu on Monday to Umakant Jha, Minister for Energy, Irrigation and Science
and Technology.
India remains committed to continue working closely with
Nepal for further cooperation in the field of Water Resources so that this
contributes to the development and prosperity of a close and friendly
neighbour," a statement from the Indian embassy said.
