Reliance Jio, few others apply for Unified Licence

Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom arm of Reliance IndustriesBSE 1.64 %, and a few other players have applied for Unified Licence.

The DoT had recently issued migration guidelines for Unified Licence under which Internet service providers (ISP) such as Reliance Jio Infocomm that have Broadband Wireless Access spectrum can offer mobile telephony service by paying an extra fee of Rs 1,658.57 crore.

Telecom companies would be allowed to offer mobile and fixed-line services using any technology. They can also provide Internet TV services. 

The new licences will be valid for 20 years, and would be renewable for another 10 years.

India, ASEAN target $100 bn bilateral trade by 2015
India and ASEAN on Wednesday decided to set a target of $100 billion turnover for the bilateral trade by 2015 between the two entities and reviewed the completion of legal scrubbing of India-ASEAN agreements on Trade in Services and Investment.

During the meeting with the ASEAN countries Ministers at Brunei, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma informed the Ministers about the steps taken by India for elevating its relationship ASEAN to a strategic partnership. 

Both sides also endorsed the texts of the Trade and Services and Investment agreements for the required steps to be taken by the participating countries for implementing the Agreements. This step marks the completion of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement process between India and ASEAN.

India had launched the ASEAN-India Centre in New Delhi and the proposed ASEAN-India Trade and Investment Centre. A concept note prepared by India on the ASEAN-India Trade and Investment Centre was also circulated seeking comments of the ASEAN side.

The meeting ended with the two sides reaffirming their commitment towards achieving the target of $100 billion bilateral trade by the year 2015.

Both sides discussed the future roadmap for the Doha Development Agreement negotiations for successful conclusion.

Google buys patents on virtual image technology from Hon Hai

Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry said it sold Google Inc part of a patent portfolio involving the superimposition of virtual images on real-world photos.

Hon Hai, the world's largest maker of electronics under contract and a major manufacturer of Apple Inc products, has said it will focus on developing new technology, intellectual property rights and e-commerce as it looks to reduce its reliance on Apple. 

It said it had applied for over 55,000 patent rights globally, of which over 5,000 have been approved

RBI penalises six more banks for KYC violation

Reserve Bank of India has penalised six state-run lenders including Allahabad Bank and IDBI Bank for violating customer identification mandates.

This comes after a month of imposing penalties on 22 banks in one of RBI's biggest such drills. 

RBI had conducted a scrutiny of banks' accounts, internal control and compliance systems in April 2013 to probe money laundering charges levelled online portal Cobrapost.

RBI said Allahabad Bank and Bank of Maharashtra have to pay Rs 0.5 crore each for violating know your customer or KYC norms. IDBI Bank and Indian Bank will have to cough up Rs 1 crore each. Dena Bank penalised Rs 2 crore while Corporation Rs 1.5 crore.

RBI said there were flaws in banks' customer identification procedure, KYC practice for walk-in customers and sale of third party products. 

It said banks have failed to prevent lapses in monitoring of transactions in dormant accounts and in following instructions on import of gold on consignment basis.

Govt to release national e-mail policy to protect privacy of email users

The government today announced that a a national e-mail policy to protect privacy of email users in the country will be released. 

Replying to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha, Communication and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal informed the House that in the proposed policy all government departments and Indian embassies are being asked to use NIC server for their email correspondence. 

He said NIC server is located in our country and it cannot be accessed by any foreign agency,government is working to enhance its capacity to protect data and information flows by building better cyber and telephony infrastructure and by evolving new cyber and telecom security practices.

He said government is also promoting Indian players in the information technology sector to develop and offer internet services by their servers located in India.

सामान्य छात्रों को भी कोचिंग दी जाएगी। इन छात्रों को चार हजार रुपये शुल्क अदा करना होगा। प्रशिक्षण 16 सितंबर से शुरू होगा। 15 नवंबर तक इसे दिया जाना है। 

प्रशिक्षण लेने के लिए फार्म भरने की अंतिम तिथि पांच सितंबर होगी। इच्छुक प्रार्थी फार्म पूर्व परीक्षा प्रशिक्षण केंद्र से किसी भी कार्य दिवस पर ले सकते हैं। 

अनुसूचित जाति, जनजाति और पिछड़ा वर्ग से संबंध रखने वाले प्रार्थियों को प्रमाण पत्रों के साथ आय का प्रमाण पत्र उसी क्षेत्र के तहसीलदार की ओर से प्रमाणित हो, जमा करवा देना होगा।

Jairam is Chairman of Common Minimum Programme implementation committee for J’khand

Union Minister Jairam Ramesh has been made the Chairman of the Common Minimum Programme implementation committee for Jharkhand. 

Congress State President, CLP leader and AICC secretary will be the other members of the committee besides two members from JMM and one from RJD.

The committee will sort out coordination issues with alliance partners and ensure proper implementation of programmes in the state.

UPSC releases sample questions of new paper

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released sample questions of the newly introduced paper on Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude for the Civil Services Examination.

The sample questions are now available on the website www.upsc.gov.in.

CHANGES IN SYLLABUS
The UPSC had made several changes in the syllabus of the Civil Services Main Examination this year.

Apart from making it more contemporary and comprehensive in traditional areas it had introduced a new paper “Ethics Integrity and Aptitude”.

Aspirants were waiting for some guidance on the paper and the sample questions would give them an idea about the exam paper . iv. “The sample questions appear to relate to common dilemmas faced by any individual.

The questions seem to be designed to test the reactions of the aspirant to various ethical dilemmas that all of us confront on a regular basis,” said Gopala Krishna, Director, Brain Tree.
