Malta to Host Next Commonwealth Summit in 2015
Malta, a Southern European country was on 17 November 2013 unanimously chosen as the host of the next Commonwealth summit in 2015.
The decision was made at the retreat session of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Colombo, Sri Lanka after Mauritius withdrew as host of the 2015 Commonwealth summit as a result of its prime minister's boycott of the Colombo summit over Sri Lanka's human rights concerns.
This is second time for Malta to host the Commonwealth summit. Before this, Malta hosted a Commonwealth Summit in 2005.

India successfully Test Advanced Version of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile
India on 18 November 2013 successfully test-fired the advanced version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the Pokhran test firing range in Rajasthan.
The block III variant of BrahMos with deep penetration capability was test launched from a Mobile Autonomous Launcher (MAL).
The missile after launch followed the predetermined trajectory and successfully pierced the designated concrete structure.
The 290-km BrahMos flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach and carries a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg.
The missile can be launched from multiple platforms including land, sea, sub-sea and air.
Actress of Bollywood Waheeda Rehman to receive first Centenary film award at IFFI
Waheeda Rehman, the veteran actress of Bollywood will be conferred with the inaugural Centenary Award for the Indian Film Personality of the Year 2013 at the 44th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on 20 November 2013.
The award will be given to her in recognition of her contributions to the film industry. She has been selected unanimously by the team of five member jury.
The award has been instituted by the Government of India to mark the 100 years of Indian Cinema. It includes a prize amount of 10 lakh rupees and a citation.
96th birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi
National Integration Day every year on 19th of November all over India. It is celebrated as the birthday anniversary of the first woman prime minister of the India, Indira Gandhi.
National Integration Day is celebrated every year in India by conducting variety of programmes and activities like Inter State Youth Exchange Programme (ISYEP), National Integration Camp (NIC), National Youth Festival, National Youth Award and etc.
Indira Gandhi, the first woman prime minister of India, was born at 19th of November in the year 1917 in Allahabad.
She was the daughter of the first Indian prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. She got her higher education from the Vishwa Bharati University and Oxford. She was very interested to the political life from her childhood.
She played a major role in strengthening the Indian democratic structure and tradition.
She handled the war of 1971 against Pakistan and won it.
Signing of the Shimla Pact with Pakistani Premier Z.A. Bhutto, Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation was done under her leadership.
PM inaugurates First Bharatiya Mahila Bank in Mumbai
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the first branch of Bharatiya Mahila Bank today in the iconic Air India building at Nariman Point in Mumbai with an area of 5,000 sq ft space on the ground floor.
Bhartiya Mahila Bank, an all-women’s bank, will have a network of 25 branches by March 2014, according to Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
The all-women’s bank will predominantly serve women, though deposits will be taken from men too. The credit growth is expected to be at a compounded annual growth rate of 16.5 per cent during the 2010-2030, while the deposit growth is expected to stay at 14.6 per cent for the 20 years period,” Chidamabarm said at the inauguration of the Bhartiya Mahila Bank on the eve of former and India’s first woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary.
The all-women’s bank will be initiated with a capital of Rs 1,000 crore and this was first announced in the Budget this year.
Usha Ananthasubramanian, who was the Executive Director of Punjab National bank, will be the Chairperson of the bank.
Headquartered in Delhi, Bhartiya Mahila Bank’s seven branches would become operational across the country, including Kolkata, Chennai, Ahemdabad and Guwahati from today.
In due course, overseas branches will be opened, Chidambaram said.
Angela Merkel to get 2013 Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace
German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel has been nominated for Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for the year 2013
The International Jury for the Prize was chaired by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, which made this announcement today.
Dr. Merkel has been nominated for her exemplary leadership in Europe and the world during the financial crises, her commitment to universal peace and disarmament and her leadership role in strengthening productive and mutually beneficial relations with India and other developing countries.
Dr. Merkel rose to become in 2005, the first woman to be elected as Chancellor of Germany.
Ratan Tata elected to board of US think tank
Top Indian industrialist Ratan Tata has returned as a board member of East West Centre, a prominent American think tank.
Tata, 75, is returning to the board and has worked with the organisation several times between 1993 and 2004.
East West Centre also elected Takeshi Niinami, the CEO of Japan’s Lawson Inc.
The Honolulu-based think tank’s board consists of 18 members, including five appointed by the US Secretary of State, five appointed by the Governor of Hawaii, five from Asia or the Pacific Islands and three ex-officio members, including the Governor of Hawaii, the Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the President of the University of Hawaii.
He chairs two of the largest private sector philanthropic trusts in India and is a member of the Indian Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry.
East West Centre is an education and research organisation established by the US Congress in 1960 to strengthen relations and understanding among the peoples and nations of Asia, the Pacific and the US.
Australia to support India’s membership of Nuclear Supplier Group
Australia will support India’s membership of the Nuclear Supplier Group, the newly appointed Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said here on Monday.
NSG is a multinational body concerned with reducing nuclear proliferation by controlling the export and re-transfer of materials that may be applicable to nuclear weapon development and by improving safeguards and protection on existing materials.
Earlier, former French President Nicholas Sarkozy also expressed his country’s backing for India’s inclusion in Nuclear Suppliers Group.
The UK has for a long time been a supporter of India’s membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
