The world Diabetes day is celebrated every year on 14

The date was chosen because it marks the birthday of Frederick
Banting, who, along with Charles Best, is credited with the discovery of
insulin in 1921.

Children's Day was celebrated in India as the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
the first Prime Minister of India after Independence.
The day is celebrated to commemorate the affection of
Jawaharlal Nehru towards children.
International funding agencies WB, ADB assure Odisha of USD 313m aid
for cyclone
International funding agencies, the World Bank and the
Asian Development Bank, have assured a financial assistance of USD 313 million
to Odisha government for restoration and rehabilitation activities in cyclone
Phailin hit areas.
Accepting Odisha's proposal of constructing an
additional 162 cyclone shelter houses as they helped in providing safe stay for
people after evacuation from the coast, WB team agreed to provide assistance of
USD 55 million for the purpose, the sources said.
The WB also agreed to finance USD 153 million for
construction of pucca houses within five kilometer from the coast in Ganjam and
Puri districts and in the bank of Chilika lake, besides slum development
proposals of Berhampur town.
Narahari Rao, Deputy Country Director ADB, and Harish
Verma Senior Project Officer, ADB, on their part assured the state government
that they would be providing USD 105 million for installing cyclone-proof power
infrastructure (at the expenditure of 70 million USD) and strengthening of
embankments (35 million USD) in cyclone prone areas in Odisha.
President to open N-waste management
unit in Kalpakkam
President Pranab Mukherjee will Friday inaugurate the
nuclear waste immobilisation plant (WIP) of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre
(BARC) at Kalpakkam near here through video conferencing from Mumbai, the
research agency said.
The president will participate at the graduation
function of BARC training school Friday and give the Homi Bhabha Award to the
toppers in each discipline
The facility, apart from vitrification - transforming a
liquid into glass - will also handle intermediate nuclear waste, separation of
residual uranium from high level liquid waste.
NASA Cassini Spacecraft provided New
View of Saturn and Earth
NASA in November 2013 released a natural-color image of
Saturn from space, the first in which Saturn, its moons and rings, and Earth,
Venus and Mars, all are visible.
The panoramic mosaic of the majestic Saturn system was
taken by Cassini Spacecraft of the NASA.
Cassini Spacecraft---Cassini Spacecraft was launched in 1997 and explored the Saturn system for more
than nine years. NASA has planned to continue the mission through 2017 with the
anticipation of many more images of Saturn, its rings and moons, along with
scientific data.
Wholesale inflation rises to 7% in Oct
The headline inflation number, the wholesale price index
or WPI, has increased to 7 per cent in October from 6.46 per cent in September.
Food inflation has almost tripled since last October to
over 18 per cent.
Vegetable prices played a key role. Overall, vegetable prices
jumped over 78 per cent, while onion prices saw a whopping 278 per cent
increase.
However, it has come down from the October 2012 number of 7.32 per cent.
SBI not to merge any associate bank in this fiscal
State Bank of India has gone back on its plan to bring
one of its associate bank’s under its fold in the current fiscal.
For the time being, the associate bank merger is on the
backburner. Nothing is going to happen till March 31, 2014,” said S.
Vishvanathan, Managing Director, Associates and Subsidiaries.
Arundhati Bhattacharya, the incumbent SBI chief, said,
“We need to do a little more consolidation on our side before we take that
(another bank) on. It is not off the table, but at this point we need to pay
attention to what we are doing in a better manner.”
INS Vikramaditya set to join Indian Navy on Nov.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony will induct the long-delayed
aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, designed to boost India’s maritime
capabilities, at a shipyard in Russia on Saturday.
Contracted for in 2004, during the NDA regime, the
vessel has been delayed by over five years and has seen several time and
cost-overruns in the last nine years.
The ship is powered by eight boilers and can achieve
top speeds of 30 knots per hour.
Note: INS Vikramaditya is a Kiev class aircraft carrier
which was commissioned by Russian Navy in 1987 under the name Baku.

Paras Ajmera resigned from MCX Board
Paras Ajmera, Director of Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX)
resigned from the board on 12 November 2013.
Paras Ajmera is a nominee of promoter Financial
Technologies India Ltd (FTIL) to the board of directors of Multi Commodity
Exchange of India Ltd (MCX).
MCX on 13 November 2013 informed the BSE that FTIL had
withdrawn the nomination of Paras Ajmera, a shareholder director, from the
board with effect from 12 November 2013, consequent to his resignation from the
MCX Board.
Yogesh Agarwal, the Chairman of PFRDA Resigned;
Anup Wadhawan Took Over
The Chairman of Pension Fund Regulatory and Development
Authority (PFRDA), Yogesh Agarwal resigned from the post of Chairman on 13
November 2013.
He resigned because of the Government’s decision to not
allow him to be a part of the selection panel for members of the regulator.
Points To remember---
Anup Wadhawan was appointed as the new Chairman of
PFRDA by the Finance Ministry.
It is important to note that Yogesh Agarwal had
one and half years more as his tenure of the Chairman.
