Manmohan Singh Ranked World’s Most Powerful Sikh
According to the first edition of the annual ‘Sikh 100′ released in London on 9 November , Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been listed as the world’s most powerful, influential and contemporary Sikh.
Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia ranks as the second most powerful Sikh on the list.Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh, current religions head of Sri Akaal Takht Sahib, the supreme religious authority of the Sikhs based in Amritsar, is listed third.
He is followed by Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal, who ranks 4th.
Ajaypal Singh Banga, president and CEO, MasterCard Worldwide, USA is ranked 8th on the list while Rabinder Singh, High Court Judge, Royal Courts of Justice, UK is 9th.
RBI pegs CAD at $ 56 bn
this year, says no reason for Re decline
Seeking to calm currency
markets, the Reserve Bank has said the current account deficit in 2013-14 will
be USD 56 billion-- much lower than the quantum projected earlier-- and there
is no fundamental reason for rupee depreciation.
Our estimates now is
that CAD this year will be USD 56 billion, less than 3 per cent of GDP and USD
32 billion less than last year RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan said at a hurriedly
called press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday.
The current account
deficit (CAD), which is the difference between outflow and inflow of foreign
exchange, touched an all-time high of USD 88.2 billion or 4.8 percent of the
GDP in 2012-13.
Rajan also said the
central bank would undertake open market operations (OMO) on Monday to inject
Rs 8,000 crore into the system to ease the liquidity situation.
As per the official
data, retail inflation measured by movement in the consumer price index (CPI),
rose to 10.09 percent, entering double digits after seven months.

Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler won the coveted Miss Universe 2013 crown on 9 November, beating 85 other contenders from around the world at a glittering ceremony held in Crocus City Hall, Moscow, Russia.
Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo of USA crowned the new beauty queen Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler.Patricia Yurena Rodriguez from Spain finished as the first runner-up, whereas Constanza Baez from Ecuador was the second runner up.Manasi Moghe from India had been shortlisted for the top 10 finalists of Miss Universe 2013 but failed to win the crown.
Miss Universe is the oldest International beauty pageant.
Prasar Bharti signed MoU
with Slovenia Radio & TV for Cooperation in Broadcasting
India's public
broadcaster Prasar Bharati and Radio-Television of Slovenia (RTV-SLO) on 13
November 2013 signed an MoU to develop and strengthen mutual friendly relations
through an increased cooperation in the field of broadcasting.
The agreement was signed
by head of international department of RTV SLO, Suzana Vidas Karoli and Member
Personnel of Prasar Bharati, VAM Hussain
The MoU allows to
explore further opportunities in potential projects of production of
programmes.
India develops new
tactical missile 'Pragati'
India has developed a
new tactical surface-to-surface missile 'Pragati' with a range between 60-170
km and will offer it to friendly countries.
The new missile, now on
display at a defence exhibition in South Korea, is based on the Prahaar missile
developed by the DRDO for the Army and can be termed as its export variant with
minor differences, a DRDO official said today.
The government has
approved that it may be offered to friendly countries if anyone shows interest
in it, he said.
The missile is the main
exhibit of the DRDO which is showcasing an array of indigenous weapons at the
Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX 2013).
Russia Successfully
Launched Proton-M Rocket Carrying a Military Satellite
Russia on 12 November
2013 successfully launched the Proton-M rocket carrying a defense satellite,
Raduga-1M from its Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
It is important to note
that Russia restarted the launch of Proton rockets in September 2013 after a
small gap in order to check why a Proton rocket launched on 2 July 2013
exploded while taking off.
The Proton-M rocket is
the most popular rocket of Russia for the commercial satellite launches.
Krishna Mohan Sahni
Appointed Chairman of the National Multi-Commodity Exchange of India
Retired bureaucrat
Krishna Mohan Sahni was appointed Chairman of the National Multi-Commodity Exchange
of India Ltd (NMCE) on 12 November 2013.
His appointment was
approved by the Forward Markets Commission, the commission which is responsible
for regulating the commodities markets in India.
MTNL signed MoU with US
Firm to impart Security Training in India
MTNL (Mahanagar
Telephone Nigam Limited) signed a MoU with Los Alamos Technical Associates,
Inc. (LATA) of USA on 12 November 2013.
The MoU has been signed
to launch the state of the of the art training programs on Cyber Security, Risk
and Crisis Management, Public Safety and Disaster Management, Homeland
Security/ Critical Infrastructure Protection, Security Operations Management,
Industrial Security, Fire & Safety Management etc.
The MoU will bring to
India the practices followed in US for security, which has been developed over
a period of time.
R. Banumathi Appointed
Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court
Justice R. Banumathi,
Judge of the Madras High Court was on 12 November 2013 appointed as the Chief
Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. She was appointed by the President of
India, Pranab Mukherjee.
India tops Junior SAF
games, Ranchi with medal haul
India with 20 gold 20
silver and 12 bronze medals has topped the medals tally position in the 2nd
Junior SAF Games that concluded today in Ranchi.
Sri Lanka with 10 gold,
10 silver and 14 bronze medals have secured 2nd position while Bangladesh with
3 bronze has come at the third position.
Pakistan with one bronze
is at the fourth position.
The participating
players have praised the hospitality and world class sports infrastructure of
the Hotwar Sports Complex of Ranchi. The three-day junior SAF had started on
10th of this month
