J&K Bank reappoints Mushtaq Ahmed
as Chairman & CEO
Jammu and Kashmir Bank has reappointed Mushtaq Ahmad as
its Chairman and CEO for a period of another three years.
Ahmed’s term with the private sector bank ended on
October 6 this year. He has been the Chairman and CEO of the bank since October
2010.
The Reserve Bank of India conveyed its approval to the
reappointment of Mushtaq Ahmad as Chairman and CEO of the bank for a period of
three years with effect from expiry of his present term on October 6, 2013, the
bank has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.
LIC Housing appoints new MD & CEO
LIC Housing Finance Ltd has appointed Sunita Sharma as
Managing Director and CEO with effect from November 5, 2013.
Prior to this, Sunita was Executive Director of
Investments at Life Insurance Corporation and was looking after the areas of
equity research and risk management.
She takes over from the incumbent MD & CEO, V.K.
Sharma.
Nirupama Rao bids farewell to her
diplomatic career
Nirupama Rao, Indian envoy to the US, bid farewell to her
career of diplomacy, as members of the American diplomatic corps and her
counterparts from countries like China and Brazil gathered at a reception
hosted in her honour by the State Department.
Rao, 62, served as India's Foreign Secretary, External
Affairs Ministry's spokesperson and envoy to important countries like China and
Sri Lanka in four decades as a diplomat.
US Secretary of State John Kerry sent a special message
to Rao which was read on the occasion. He appreciated Rao's role in
strengthening the important partnership between India and the US.
Rao is one of the few diplomats who has over 190,000
followers on the microblogging site.
At the reception, she was described as "tireless
champion" of Indo-US Strategic Partnership and
Rao will be succeeded by S Jaishankar, currently
India's Ambassador to China.
Mahatma Gandhi's Charkha was sold for
£110000 at UK Auction
Charkha of Mahatma Gandhi that he used in Yerwada Jail
during the Quit India Movement was auctioned in UK on 5 November 2013 for
£110000 (1.1 crore rupees approximately) at England.
The charkha of Mahatma Gandhi is about eight decades
old.
His last/final will was also auctioned over £20000 (19
lakh rupees approximately) for historical documents and artefacts by the
Mullock’s Auction house in Shropshire, England.
The Charkha made by Indian teak was gifted by Mahatma
Gandhi to Revd Floyd A Puffer, an American Free Methodist missionary in 1935.
Whereas.
His will was written at Sabarmati Ashram in
Gujarati. The will succeeded the will dated 1921 that was sold at an earlier
auction by Mullock's.
The name of the buyer was kept secret by the buyer.
Pakistan Successfully Test Fired
Surface-to-Surface Missile Hatf IX (Nasr)
Pakistan on 5 November 2013 successfully test-fired Hatf
IX (Nasr) missile, a surface-to-surface missile with a range of 60 km.
The test fire was conducted with successive launches of
4 x missiles (Salvo) from a state of the art multi tube launcher.
Nasr, with a range of 60 Kilometer and in-flight
maneuver capability is a quick response system, with shoot and scoot
attributes. It contributes to the full spectrum deterrence against threats in
view of evolving scenarios.

• Nasr is designed specifically to defeat Anti-Tactical Missile Defence Systems
of all kinds.
• The test firing of short range surface-to-surface missile Hatf IX (Nasr) was a part of medium-range ballistic missiles [MRBM] and short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile [SRBMs].
• The missile has the capability to carry nuclear weapons.

Mark Schwarzer, Australia Goalkeeper
Retired from International Football
Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer on 6 November 2013
announced his retirement from international football.
Mark Schwarzer (41 years old) represented Australia at
international level on 109 occasions since his debut in 1993, and one of the
key players in qualifying for three consecutive World Cups.
Mark Schwarzer is the key player in Socceroos team
(Australia National football team) for twenty years.
Mark played in
Australia's 6-0 loss to Brazil in his last match for the national team in
September 2013
