Gujarat CM Laid Foundation Stone Of  Sardar Patel Statue

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi laid  the foundation stone of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s statue in Bharuch of Gujarat.

The proposed statue which will be called ‘The Statue of Unity’, will be erected on a small rocky island called Sadhubet in the middle of the Narmada riverbed facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia.The proposed statue will be 182 metre tall and will be the tallest in the world.

The total height from the base will be 240 metre, which includes base level of 58 metre.It will be double the size of ‘Statue of Liberty’.

The ‘Spring Temple Buddha’ statue in China is the closest rival at a height of 153 metre.Sardar Vallabhai Patel was an Indian freedom fighter and one of the great social leaders of India.

He is one of the leaders of the Indian National Congress and one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India.

After India’s independence, he became the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India.

He was the man behind the consolidation of 565 semi-autonomous princely states to form a united India.

Bharat Joshi is new British Deputy High Commissioner

Bharat Suresh Joshi has been appointed as the new British Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai. He succeeds Mike Nithavrianakis who has been in that position for the past four years.Bharat Suresh Joshi  joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1995.

He was worked as the British High Commissioner to Camaroon and non-resident Ambassador to Gabon, Chad, Equatorial Guinea and Central African Republic.

S Varadarajan Appointed as BPCL’s Chairman and Managing Director

S. Varadarajan, Director-Finance has been appointed as chairman and managing director (CMD) of Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (BPCL).

He will replace R. K. Singh when he superannuates.

Mr. Varadarajan will be the Chairman and Managing Director of BPCL till his superannuation at the end of September 2016.

Pakistan Won Under-19 Asian Rugby Championship 2013

Pakistan has won the Asian Under-19 Rugby Championship in Lahore, after defeated India in the final .At the end of the first half, both teams’ scores were on par at 8- 8.

However, in the second half, Pakistani team played more confidently and aggressively and won five more points for them while Indians could get only three more points.

Rajaraman Chosen For ‘ Leo Szilard Lectureship ‘ Award

The American Physical Society has chosen Dr. R. Rajaraman, an Emeritus Professor of Physics from the School of Physical Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University, for the ‘2014 Leo Szilard Lectureship Award’.

The Award was established to recognize outstanding accomplishments by physicists for the benefit of society.

India Wins Two Bronze In IJF Judo Grand Prix

India won two bronze medals in the IJF Grand Prix Judo tournament which ended in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Kapana Devi won the first bronze before H Sunibala Devi added another in the under 78kg weight category in the event .

Anand Mahindra Elected as new Chairperson of PHFI

Mahindra group Chairman and Managing Director Anand Mahindra has been elected as The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) Chairperson for a term of three years.

Mahindra succeeds NR Narayana Murthy, Infosys founder, Executive Chairman, who has held the position since July 2011.

India Post Launched International Money Transfer Service- ‘Instant Cash’

India Post signed an agreement with Wall Street Exchange for launch of an International Electronic Money Transfer service through ‘Instant Cash’ which is owned by Emirates Post Group.

The service was launched at a function organized by the Department of Post, with Secretary of the Department P Gopinath receiving the first payment from United Arab Emirates.

The service will be made available at around 17,500 post offices across India by November.

It will be provided through the International Financial System (IFS) of Universal Postal Union.
