Nadal beats Gasquet

Rafael Nadal comfortably dealt with France's Richard Gasquet 6-4 7-6(1), 6-2, on Saturday to move into the final of the US Open where he faces a highly anticipated clash with world number one Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic and Nadal will now meet for the third time in four years in the Monday final at Flushing Meadows with Nadal having triumphed in 2010 and holding a 21-15 record in their all-time meetings.

After Djokovic needed five sets to deal with a determined Stanislas Wawrinka in their earlier semifinal, second-seed Nadal's task was almost routine against an opponent he has now beaten in all 11 meetings between the pair.

Vodafone Group's 45% stake in Verizon Wireless for $130 billion

Verizon Communications said on Monday it has agreed to buy out Vodafone Group's 45% stake in Verizon Wireless for $130 billion, capping its decade long effort to win full control of the most profitable mobile service provider in the United States.

The deal marks the third largest announced acquisition in corporate history, after Vodafone's 1999 buyout of Germany's Mannesmann for $203 billion and AOL's $165 billion takeover of Time Warner in 2000.

It also marks British telecom giant Vodafone's exit from the large but mature US mobile market.

Under the terms of the deal, Vodafone would get $58.9 billion in cash, $60.2 billion in Verizon stock, and an additional $11 billion from smaller transactions that would take the total deal value to $130 billion, Verizon said in a statement.

The boards of Verizon and Vodafone have unanimously approved the sale, which is subject to customary closing conditions, and was expected to close in the first quarter of 2014.

Tony Abbot to be Australian 28th prime minister

TONY Abbott will be sworn in as the 28th prime minister of Australia after tonight clinching an historic victory and ending six years of Labor rule.

Tony Abbott has declared Australia is ``once more open for business'' in claiming victory in Saturday's election.

The win caps off an extraordinary turnaround by Mr Abbott and the opposition after being sensationally turfed out of office in 2007.

Mr Abbott seized the leadership by one vote in December in 2009 after a partyroom split over whether to back Labor's doomed emissions trading scheme.

Incredibly, he killed off Kevin Rudd in June 2010 and then Julia Gillard in June 2013 before finally tonight seeing off Mr Rudd a second time.
