Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board ( GSEB) is contemplating a 20% fee hike for SSC and HSC students for the upcoming board examinations. The hike has been proposed in the agenda of the examination committee meeting scheduled for September 26.
The board will get an additional Rs 10 crore every year if the committee accepts the 20% hike and parents of more than 18 lakh students loosen up their pockets.
Rs 6 from Rs 3 per answer paper - for teachers who assess papers. These are the reasons the education board cites for the proposed hike in exam fees.
At present GSHSEB takes Rs 220 per SSC student, Rs 320 for HSC general stream and Rs 250 each per semester per student for HSC science stream.
The board charges Rs 280 per semester per student in Standard 11 science stream.
India Gets ‘Authorizing Nation’ Status For IT products
India on 19 September has been granted status as ‘authorizing nation’ under the international Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) to test and certify electronics and IT products with respect to cyber security.
The status of ‘authorizing nation’ will enable India to test IT and electronics products and issue certificates, which will be acceptable internationally.
The recognition would also enable investment in setting up infrastructure and labs in public and private sectors in India for testing Electronics and IT products.
Bihar Govt. Declared 33 Districts as Drought-Affected
The Bihar Government approved the proposal of Disaster Management department for declaring the 33 districts of Bihar as drought-hit.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Finance Ministry Launched ‘Insurance Repository System
Union finance minister P Chidambaram launched the IRDA’s insurance repository system (IRS) in (Andhra Pradesh) Hyderabad .
The insurance repository system set up by the regulator will be the first of its kind in the world.
The objective of creating an insurance repository is to provide policy holders the facility to keep insurance policies in electronic form.
World’s Highest Airport Opens In China
China has opened the world’s highest civilian airport named ” Daocheng Yading” in a restive and remote Tibetan region of southwestern Sichuan province.
The Daocheng Yading airport in Ganzi prefecture in southwestern China is the world’s highest civilian airport.
The region is a gateway to Tibet.Daocheng airport in Garzi, a heavily ethnic Tibetan part of Sichuan, is 4411 metres above sea level, and overtakes Qamdo airport in Tibet, which sits at 4334 metres above sea level, for the title of world’s highest.
Sikkim Records Steepest Fall In Poverty Level
According to the latest data released by the Planning Commission , Sikkim has recorded steepest fall in poverty level in the country on account of increase in per capita consumption and the proportion of the poor living below poverty line in the urban area is lowest among all states.
In Sikkim, the proportion of people below the poverty line (BPL) came down from 30.9 per cent in 2004-05 to 8.19 per cent in 2011-12.
States with the least proportion of poor living below poverty line are Goa (5.09 per cent), Kerala (7.05 per cent), Himachal Pradesh (8.06 per cent), Sikkim (8.19 per cent), Punjab (8.26 per cent) and Andhra Pradesh (9.20 per cent).

New Deal for Somalia
International donors have pledged €1.8 billion at a
conference in Brussels as part of a “New Deal for Somalia.
the money is to come from the European Union (EU) which
pledged € 650 million to aid the troubled nation.
Somalia has witnessed two decades of relentless conflict and
remains divided among rival power centres in the north, south and centre, while
the Al Shabaab Islamist militia remains active across the region.
Nearly a
third of the country has broken away to form the autonomous Republic of
Somaliland, while the region of Puntland has repeatedly threatened to secede.
A
recent deal with Ahmed Madobe, the self-appointed leader of Jubaland, has broad
measure of stability to the south.
“The EU and Somalia argue that now is a good time to adopt
the New Deal,” said Mary Harper, a BBC analyst and author of Getting Somalia
Wrong, on her website, “But it is possible that the Brussels meeting will
simply be the latest in the long list of expensive conferences on Somalia that
end with ambitious communiqués but have little or no impact on the development
of the country.”
