India Doctor uses Google glass in surgery

In a first in India, a surgeon operated upon two persons wearing a pair of Google glass, allowing people across the globe to see the procedure live.

Chennai-based Dr JS Rajkumar, laparoscopy surgeon and chairman of Lifeline Hospital, became the second surgeon in the world to operate using the cable-less device of  for severe heart burn and on a 46-year-old woman for surgical hernia, developed after undergoing a bariatric surgery.

Postal Dept To bring RTI stamp soon

RTI applicants will no longer have to wait to get their applications processed as the Department of Posts is all set to bring out an RTI stamp for sale soon and also set up special counters, according to a senior officer.

Under orders of the Central Information Commission, the Department will issue RTI stamps in the denomination of Rs 10.

Visitors will no longer have to wait at post offices or face problems in depositing RTI fees, photocopying charges as the CIC directions will be enforced, he said.

Chief Information Commissioner Satyanandan Mishra had issued a series of directions on receipt of a complaint by an information seeker. After deliberating on the pros and cons, suitable orders have been issued to the postal services, he said.

New appointed First Women Chief Information Commissioner of India Deepak Sandhu will soon replace present CIC Satyanandan Mishra.

Videocon to offer free incoming roaming on other networks

Mobile service provider Videocon is going to offer new incoming roaming services free on other networks across the country.

NTPC Awarded Indira Gandhi Official Language Award for Propagation of Rajbhasha

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) was awarded Indira Gandhi Official Language Award for propagation of Rajbhasha ( Official Language) in the company by the Union Government of India on Hindi Divas on 14 September 2013.

This Award is to promote the official Language in the country, the Government of India introduced Indira Gandhi Official Language Award from 1986-82.

This award grants to the various Ministries/Departments, Banks and Financial Institutions, Public Sector Undertakings and employees. The following awards are given every year.

I&B Ministry okays Goldman Sachs’ $110-million investment in DEN Networks

Information and broadcasting ministry has approved Goldman Sachs' proposal to invest $110 million, or about Rs 693 crore, in cable distribution firm DEN Networks.

The deal will give the US investment firm about 18% stake in DEN Networks.

The government has also approved the name of Ankur Sahu, co-head of private equity in Asia at Goldman Sachs, as its nominee director on the board of DEN Networks.

It cleared the name of Vishal Bakshi as alternate director. In May, DEN Networks had announced the proposed transaction to raise $110 million from Goldman Sachs by issuing fresh shares to its affiliates Broad Street Investments (Singapore) and MBD Bridge DEN Networks distributes television channels through analog and digital cable networks and provides internet services.

It currently has 13 million subscribers, including 5 million digital users, across the country.

John Abraham honoured with the 'Pride of the Nation' Award 

Bollywood actor John Abraham was on Monday conferred the 'Pride of the Nation' award for his attempt to raise the sensitive issue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination through his role as a RAW agent in "Madras Cafe". 

Through 'Madras Cafe' Abraham made a courageous attempt to unravel the conspiracy behind the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi," Bitta said addressing the gathering.

The film "Madras Cafe" is set in the late 80s and early 1990s, during the time of Sri Lankan civil war and the assassination of then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Bitta said there was a need to initiate an "unbiased enquiry to expose the conspiracy" which resulted in the death of Rajiv Gandhi. 

RBI ,finance ministry to stem rising bad loans

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan and the finance ministry will work out measures to stem the rising bad loans and ways to strengthen the banking sector.

Rajan and financial services secretary Rajiv Takru discussed new banking licences, the proposed Bhartiya Mahila Bank, financial inclusion and other banking sector reforms.

finance ministry has been pushing banks to focus on their top 30 non-performing assets or NPAs. As on March 2013, top 30 NPAs of state-run banks are worth Rs 61,123 crore and constitute for 39.7% of their gross NPAs.

Amit wins silver at World Wrestling Championship 

Asian Champion Amit Kumar settled for silver after going down narrowly in the final of the 55kg category on the opening day of World Wrestling Championships on Monday. 

Amit lost to Hassan Farman Rahimi of Iran 1-2 to win finish with a silver medal at the Papp Laszlo Sports Arena. 

India's last medal, in men's section, came in 2010 when Sushil had grabbed the gold. 

After London Olympics silver medallist Sushil Kumar failed to take the mat due to fitness issues, Amit brought cheers to the Indian camp when he got the better off Sezar Akgul of Turkey in the semifinals of the marquee event. 

World No 7 Amit, however, howed no mercy on his Turkish opponent as he finished the proceedings in the first period itself to set up the final bout.

Bill Gates tops Forbes rich list again

Bill Gates, who at 57 has a net worth of $72 billion.

He was followed by Warren Buffett, who despite giving away about $1 billion last year, was the biggest gainer, adding $12.5 billion to bring his fortune to $58.5 billion.

The annual Forbes 400 wealthiest Americans list showed that total wealth climbed 19%in the last year to $2.02 trillion, up from $1.7 trillion, with an average net worth per individual of $5 billion, up from $ 4.2 billion in 2012.

It now takes $1.3 billion in assets to get on the list.

China opens world's highest civilian airport in Sichuan

China has begun flight operations at the world's highest civilian airport in a bid to boost tourism and tighten political control over the country's restive west.

At an elevation of 4,411 meters (14,472 feet) above sea level, Daocheng Yading Airport replaces the previous champion, Bangda Airport in the Tibet Autonomous Region, which sits at 4,334 meters (14,219 feet).

The one at Daocheng Yading is 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) long, just 242 meters (794 feet) shorter than the longest runway at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The shortened travel time will make it far easier to send troops to the region in the event of major unrest, as last occurred across traditionally Tibetan parts of Sichuan in 2008.

iGate to pay $1.3 million with bonus to new CEO Ashok Vemuri

IGateCorporation, will pay its new CEO Ashok Vemuri, a salary of $ 1.3 million (Rs 8.2 crore) and a performance-linked bonus that could go up to $1 million (Rs 6.3 crore), the Nasdaq-listed technology services company told stock exchanges.
