Nadal beat Jokovic to lift second US Open title
Rafael Nadal claimed his second US Open title and 13th
Grand Slam crown when he defeated world number one Novak Djokovic, 6-2, 3-6,
6-4, 6-1 in a lung-busting final.
Nadal, 27, added the 2013 trophy to his 2010 triumph,
when he completed a career Grand Slam, and capped a year that has seen him
claim 10 titles and stretch his season record to 60 wins and just three losses.
Monday's win also earned him a total of USD 3.6
million, which takes his career earnings through the USD 60 million mark, and
also edged him closer to Roger Federer's record of 17 majors and put him one
behind Pete Sampras.
The triumph also meant that 34 of the last 35 Grand Slam
finals have been won by the 'big four' of Nadal, Djokovic, Federer and Murray.
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore leaves Army, joins BJP
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore leaves Army Rathore, who took VRS after an illustrious careers which began with the Sword of Honour at the Indian Military Academy in 1990, said he is driven by a new passion.
Rathore says he has faith in BJP and that's why he chose the saffron party. "India today needs decisive leadership and I see that leadership in Narendra Modi and Vasundhara Raje," he said.
"Like a general that leads from the front, he (Modi) has galvanised a nation that had forgotten to believe. He deserves a chance.
Born in Jaisalmer, it was but natural for Rathore to launch his political career in Rajasthan.
I know, politics and politicians are hated but I still believe in goodness of a heart that has selfless intentions. With the grace of god, I will make a difference," he said.

India's first 'Wagah in the East' to be open on October 2
The country’s first ‘Wagah in the East’ post, along the
Indo-Bangla border, will be thrown open to the public this Gandhi Jayanti when
Home Ministers of both the countries will witness a historic cultural
extravaganza between the two neighbours.\
The first retreat ceremony between the two countries
will be held on the lines of what happens everyday between India and Pakistan
along the Wagah post in Punjab.
The historic ceremony will be held on the occasion of
Gandhi Jayanti.
The maiden ceremony, which will include ceremonial
lowering of flags in the evening, will be conducted by the border guards of the
two countries—the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh
dressed in full regalia.
Minister of State for Power to fast-track 40,000 MW of hydro projects
Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) Jyotirditya Scindia on Tuesday said the government was making efforts to fast-track nearly 95 hydro power projects with a capacity of 40,000 MW to give a big push to the power sector.
Power Ministry Said-
The projects are awaiting clearances from different authorities, including Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Central Water Commission (CWC) and Ministry of Environment and Forests
The Power Ministry proposed to allow the Jharkhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka state electricity boards to include their outstanding liabilities of the past three to six months in the scheme, he added.
It is a very small tweaking which I will take to the Cabinet in the next two weeks and then the states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Jharkhand will be part of the financial restructuring package.
These states will be allowed a window under the FRP to meet the mandatory conditions,” he added.
West Bengal to set up holding company
for marketing of products
The West Bengal Government on Monday decided to set up a
holding company to bring all state corporations marketing different products
under the MSME sector under a single umbrella.
The state cabinet took the decision to set up the
company which would be named, Brand Bengal Marketing Corporation.
With the launch of this company, the marketing of all
the companies under the MSME sector will be brought under one roof for a better
market linkage and return worldwide benefiting the artisans and workers in the
sector.
The state cabinet also cleared allocation of Rs 492
crore for ‘Kanyashee project’ to be launched on October 1 this year to benefit
the girl child.
Indian-American Manju Goel announces
candidacy for US Congress
Indian-American Manju Goel has announced her bid to seek
Republican party nomination to run for a seat in the US Congress, focussing on
divisive issues like "Obamacare" and the growing national debt.
Ms Goel, an Aurora resident and conservative who was
born in India, hopes to win the Republican primary in March and then take on
incumbent Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth for the 8th district congressional
seat.
Ms Goel outlined her campaign platform on Sunday during
the Northwest Suburban Republican Family Picnic at Busse Woods Forest Preserve
in Elk Grove Village.

industry as a process improvement specialist, she said neither patients nor
doctors like the Affordable Health Care Act, which she, like many Republicans,
refer to as "Obamacare."
Andy Murray seals ATP Tour finals spot
Britain's Andy Murray joined world number one Novak
Djokovic and newly-crowned U.S. Open champion Rafa Nadal as definite qualifiers
for the ATP World Tour finals on Tuesday but Roger Federer faces a battle to
make the eight-man field.
Despite falling at the quarter-final stage in his
defense of the U.S. Open last week, Murray is third in the race to London and
guaranteed a spot at the season-ending tournament.
Murray has flourished on home soil this year, becoming
the first British male since Fred Perry in 1936 to win Wimbledon and he is now
setting his sights on completing a memorable year alongside the River Thames.
Federer has been an ever-present at the Tour finals
since 2002, winning the event six times, but the 17-times grand slam champion
is at risk of missing out this time.
