Thailand's Temple of Dawn to get $4 mn makeover

Thailand's iconic "Temple of Dawn" on the banks of Bangkok's Chao Phraya river is to undergo a three-year renovation costing around $4 million.

 which is known for the morning light reflecting off its porcelain-encrusted surfaces, will remain open to visitors during the overhaul.

The maintenance cycle is usually 25-30 years but it's shortening because of increased pollution and more severe changes in the weather

Temple was last renovated in 1996 -- would include repairing cracks, removing mould and replacing damaged tiles.

The Good Road' nominated as India’s entry for Oscars

Gyan Correa’s National award-winning Gujarati film ‘The Good Road’, a lost-and-found story of a small boy, was today nominated to represent India in the Best Foreign Film category at next year’s Oscars.

It saw off strong competition from films like ‘The Lunchbox’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘English Vinglish’, Malayalam film ‘Celluloid’ and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroopam’.

The Good Road’ surprises as it shows the unknown India through the story of a boy who is lost and then found while his family is on a holiday trip to Kutch.

Produced by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), ‘The Good Road’ marks 42-year-old Correa’s debut.

The film stars Keval Katrodia as seven-year-old Aditya who loses his way in the desert. It also stars Sonali Kulkarni and actor Ajay Gehi as Aditya’s parents.

--मंत्रालयों और विभागों के नई गाड़ी खरीदने पर प्रतिबंध।
--नए पद नहीं सृजित होंगे और ही खाली पदों पर नियुक्तियां होंगी।
--विदेश जाने वाले सरकारी प्रतिनिधिमंडल में सदस्यों की संख्या कम से कम रखनी होगी।

PM inaugurates Jaipur Metro phase 1

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh inaugurated Phase 1 of the Jaipur Metro Rail on Saturday after he laid the foundation stone of the first airport in Rajasthan's Ajmer district, while informing that small destinations in the country will have air connectivity with a network of more than 100 airports, planned to meet the expected passenger load capacity of 30 crore, by 2020.

The first such airport will come up in Kishangarh town in Rajasthan's Ajmer district, he said after laying the foundation stone for the development of the airport which is scheduled to get operational by 2016. 

An ambitious scheme to develop a network of 100 smaller airports in the country is being implemented.

This will enhance air connectivity in the country. Kishangarh airport will be the first project under this scheme,

Ajmer is a noted tourist destination having famous dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti and Brahma temple in Pushkar town.Besides, the region is known for industries including that of marble and the new project of airport will push economic growth.


Kishangarh town, famous for marble industry, is located on NH-8 near Ajmer city. 

The civil airport, to be set by AAI, in the town will have 2000 meter long runway and a capacity to handle 150 passengers.

केंद्र सरकार शुक्रवार को महंगाई भत्ते में दस फीसदी के इजाफे को मंजूरी दे सकती है।

अभी अस्सी फीसदी तक महंगाई भत्ता लोगों को मिल रहा है, जिसके 90 फीसदी करने का प्रस्ताव सरकार के पास विचाराधीन है।

अगर मंजूरी मिल जाती है तो इससे 50 लाख केंद्रीय कर्मचारियों और 30 लाख पेंशनभोगियों को फायदा पहुंचेगा। यह बढ़ोतरी 1 जुलाई, 2013 से प्रभावी मानी जाएगी।

हालांकि बढ़ोतरी से सरकारी खजाने पर हर साल 10, 879 करोड़ रुपए का बोझ बढ़ जाएगा।

Sourav Ganguly, Leander Paes to be given Lifetime Achievement Awards by Bengal government

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and tennis ace Leander Paes will be conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards, while successful football coach Subhas Bhowmick will be given 'Guru Ratna' by the state government at a function on September 28. 

This is for the first time the West Bengal Ministry of Sports has constituted awards in about 50 categories for the sportspersons as chief minister Mamata Banerjee will confer them at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, sports minister Madan Mitra said. 

The government is also likely to formally announce the upcoming state football academy while about 6,000 clubs will get financial aids.

President seal on country's first national aviation university

Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University Bill, 2013 has received the assent of the President of India.

President Pranab Mukherjee has given his assent for setting up of the first-ever national aviation university named after Rajiv Gandhi to train pilots, cabin crew and aircraft engineers.

The university would promote aviation studies, training and research with focus on emerging areas like aviation management, aviation regulation and policy, aviation history, aviation science and engineering, aviation law, aviation safety and security and aviation medicine.

Assam government launched 'Swavalamban Pension Scheme'

As per the scheme named 'Swavalamban Pension Scheme', a person with a minimum contribution of Rs 1,000 per year will get an equal amount of contribution from the govt.

New pension scheme will start from next month and is basically meant to take care of all the people in the unorganized sector," Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Himangshu Sekhar Das said.

The benefit will be available to a subscriber whose investment will not exceed Rs 12,000 every year.

The maximum amount of contribution is fixed at Rs 50,000 annually.

All subscribers after enrollment in the system will get a Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN).

The aggregator for the scheme in the state will be Assam Gramin Vikash Bank and Alankit Assignment, while the fund managers are SBI Pension Fund, LIC and UTI.

Jawaid Akhtar Elected Chairperson of International Coffee Council

Jawaid Akhtar, the Chairman of Coffee Board of India, was elected as the Chairperson of the International Coffee Council at the meetings of the International Coffee Organization which took place on 9 September 2013 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

The 111th session of the Council and the meetings took place from 9 September 2013- 12 September 2013. 

At the same time, Conradin Rasi of Switzerland was elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the International Coffee Council. The Council also appointed Juan Esteban Orduz of Colombia as the Chairperson of the Consultative Forum.

About the International Coffee Organization (ICO)
The International Coffee Organization was established in 1963 in London.
It was initiated with the United Nations (UN) to increase cooperation among the nations which produce, distribute and consume coffee.
The International Coffee Organization was formed as a result of the five-year International Coffee Agreement signed in 1962 at the UN in New York.
Till the year 2011, it comprised of 39 members, which included 33 exporting nations, 5 importing countries and one importing community, i.e., the European Union.

Vadodara-based MNC develops pedal water pump for farmers

Gujarat's Chief Minister plans a project to construct world's largest statue of Sardar Patel in Gujarat to engage Indian farmers across India. Similarly, a Vadodara-based multinational company Xylem Water Solutions is too trying to engage with population at the bottom of the pyramid - the farmers, using innovation.

We have completed the pilot run of pedal pumps and by next month it would be available in the Indian market" said Sam Yamdagni, managing director, Xylem Water Solutions India, a subsidiary of $ 3.8 billion Xylem Inc, maker of large water pumps and sewage solution provider.

According to Mr. Yamdagni, his company would be targeting the bottom of the pyramid - farmers, which is a voluminous market spread across the length and breadth of India. 

The first consignment of 125 pedal pumps would be delivered to a Maharastra -based NGO to be distributed amongst the farmers there.
