The country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Thursday announced its foray into Peru with the launch of the ‘Hero’ brand and its range of two-wheelers in the Latin American nation----
The range of Hero two-wheelers which are now available in Peru include brands across segments — Pleasure, Passion Pro, Glamour, Hunk, Thriller, Karizma ZMR and Karizma R, the company said.
The company(Hero MotoCorp Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer Pawan Munjal said it has appointed MOTOCORP SAC — a part of the EFE Group of Peru — as distributor to sell its two-wheelers in the country.
PM appoints Ashwani Kumar special envoy
with cabinet rank
Nearly three months after he had to resign as Union Law
minister in a blaze of controversy, Ashwani Kumar has been appointed by Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh as his Special Envoy to visit Japan in the rank of a
Cabinet Minister.
The Prime Minister has nominated Kumar "to visit
for up to seven days as PM's Special Envoy for that period (in the rank and the
privileges of a Cabinet Minister) to maintain the momentum of high-level
exchanges with Japan.... "And to prepare for the upcoming visit of Their
Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan and the Prime Minister of Japan to
India," an official letter to Kumar said.
Kumar was under severe pressure to quit from the
opposition after the Supreme Court came down heavily on the CBI for allowing
the law ministry to vet the draft of CBI probe report on Coalgate.
Commenting on Ashwani Kumar's role as law minister, the
apex court had said that a minister can ask for a report but can't interfere
with the CBI probe. After which Kumar stepped down in May.
The official letter also said the officers of External
Affairs Ministry will be in touch with him to implement the Prime Minister's
instructions.
US plan to station military aircraft in India Government
reject US proposal
A top US Air Force
official's remarks that his country is planning to station a military
aircraft in Thiruvananthapuram as part of it's policy of encircling China with defence
bases.
General Carlisle said "we are not gonna build any more
bases in the Pacific to support the US Air Force's increased presence
there." The US Air Force has nine major bases in different countries.
Indian Government said-
"India is not going to allow any foreign country to
establish any military base on it's soil.
"India carefully maintains ties with countries in the world. As a policy, we are not part of any military and do not intend to be part of any in future as well
India cannot become a military ally of the US
Tata Steel was adjudged the Best
Performing Steel Plant
Tata Steel was adjudged the Best Performing Integrated Steel Plant in the
country for the year 2011-12 based on the recommendations made by a Panel of
Judges that selected companies for the Prime Minister`s Trophy awards for the
year 2011-12.
The date of the award function for 2011-12 will be
announced by the Union Ministry of Steel later.
The Government of India decided to award the
Certificate of Excellence to Tata Steel as per the scheme for the Prime
Minister's Trophy for 2011-12.
Tata Steel has scored maximum marks in overall
performance for the fourth consecutive year.
The Prime Minister’s Trophy was instituted in 1992 by
former Prime Minister Late P V Narsimha Rao for excellence in the performance
of integrated steel companies with an objective to give recognition for
outstanding performance in the vital sector of the national economy which draws
heavily on national resources of capital and skilled manpower.
India-ASEAN FTA closer with ministers
endorsing text
The comprehensive economic partnership agreement between India
and ASEAN has inched closer with ministers of both sides endorsing the final
text of the pact in Brunei.
Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, who is in
Brunei, participated in the ASEAN-India Consultations yesterday.
In the meeting, the ministers took note of completion
of legal scrubbing of India-ASEAN agreements on trade in services and
investment.
They also endorsed the texts of pacts for the required
steps to be taken by the participating countries for the implementation of the
agreements.
During the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit in December
last year, India and the 10-nation Asean had finalised the free trade agreement
in services and investments. Both the sides had already implemented free trade
pact in goods in 2011.
The free trade pact after its implementation is expected to facilitate
temporary movement of business people.
Manning gets 35 years in WikiLeaks case
US Army Private Bradley Manning was sentenced to 35 years in
prison on Wednesday for providing a trove of classified documents to
anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, a military judge ruled.
Judge Denise Lind also dishonourably discharged Manning, 25,
from the military at the court martial at Fort Meade, a US Army base in
Maryland.
He will receive credit for three-and-a-half years already
served.
Manning had faced a maximum of 90 years for turning over a
trove of classified government documents to WikiLeaks more than three years
ago. Last month Judge Lind found Manning guilty on 20 of 22 charges, but found
him not guilty of the most serious charge of aiding the enemy.
IRDA penalty of over 3cr on Bajaj
Allianz Life Insurance for violations
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA)
on Wednesday imposed a penalty of 3.10 crore rupees on Bajaj Allianz Life
Insurance for violation of various norms, including those related to
early-death claims and group insurance.
In a order, the IRDA has asked the company to pay the
fine within 15 days.
The regulator also warned the company against wrongful
claim practices and directed to ensure settlement of claims in fairness, both
as per terms and conditions of the policy contract.
The regulator said, Bajaj Allianz also violated norms by
entering into referral arrangements with entities that were not licensed to act
as corporate agents or insurance intermediaries for the sale of group insurance
products.
Pakistani parliament expressed concern over the violation of the ceasefire at the LoC and called for a "constructive" engagement with India.
The National Assembly or lower house of parliament unanimously adopted a resolution, tabled by defence production minister Rana Tanveer, that condemned the latest incident of firing as an "act of aggression" and expressed serious concerns at the ceasefire violations.
The House called for a "constructive and result-oriented process of engagement" with India.
