Inflation shoots up to 5.79% in July as
prices of veggies soar
Inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) had stood at 4.86 percent in June. In July, 2012, it was 7.52 percent.
As per official data released on Wednesday, WPI inflation in the food articles category rose to double digits at 11.91 percent, driven mainly by price rise in onion, cereals and rice.
The rate of price rise in food articles, which has a 14.34 percent share in the WPI basket, was at 9.74 percent in June. The inflation in the food articles category rose for the third straight month.
Inflation in onion shot up by 145 percent in July on an annual basis. It has risen by 114 percent in the previous month as against the same period last year
Inflation in the manufactured items category showed a marginal rise to 2.81 percent in July, from 2.75 percent in June.
This is the first time in four months that the WPI inflation rose above the 5 percent level. It was 5.65 percent in March and since then remained at sub-5 percent level.
The additional financing for the Bihar State Highways-II Project, which is already under implementation, will widen sections of four highways to two lanes, build and maintain bridges and strengthen pavements. This will optimise access to the state highway network for residents of remote villages.
This project will also use a USD 1 million grant to prepare a 20-year road master plan for Bihar. This should help the national and state governments achieve their vision of improving the lives of its people by providing an efficient transport system.

Rural posting must for doctors seeking PG admission: MCI
The Government said that the Medical Council of
India (MCI) has amended post graduate medical education regulations to make it
mandatory for candidates seeking admission in post graduate courses to have
served in rural areas for at least one year.
The Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad
admitted to the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a query, that there were
reports of instances of misuse of NRHM funds in some states, but said it would
not be correct to infer that funds allocated under the scheme are not properly
used in rural areas.
The Ministry had also requested Comptroller & Auditor
General to conduct annual transaction audits of National Rural Health Mission
in all the states from the financial year 2011-12 in order to identify the
existing gaps, facilitate independent monitoring and timely corrective measures
so that a quality and timely audit assessment becomes available to assist the
state governments in undertaking remedial measures and achieving the targets of
NRHM.
These include submission of quarterly financial monitoring
reports by states, annual statutory audits, concurrent audits, visits by teams
of financial management group of the ministry to states for periodical
financial reviews.

Leo Puri to step down from Infosys board
IT services major Infosys on Wednesday said one of its
independent directors Leo Puri will step down from the board of directors
following his appointment as the Managing Director of UTI Asset Management.
This is pursuant to his appointment as Managing Director of
UTI Asset Management Co Ltd, India’s sixth largest asset manager by size. Mr.
Puri joined the Infosys Board on April 11, 2013, it added.
Mr. Puri has been a Senior Advisor to McKinsey &
Company’s Asia-Pacific Financial Institution Practice and has over 25 years of
experience of working in consulting and investment field for financial
institutions.
Between 2007 and 2011, Mr. Puri was a managing director with
private equity firm Warburg Pincus & Company, responsible for investments
in India and financial institutions in relevant Asian markets, it added.
Mr. Puri, who joined the Infosys board in April 2013, has
also served as a Managing Director in investment firm Warburg Pincus &
Company.
Asian Development Bank Loan to
Bihar
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Centre signed an
agreement for US $300 million additional loan to upgrade 254 kilometres of
deteriorated highways in northern and southern Bihar.

Govt plans new Bill for appointment of SAT presiding officer
The government plans to introduce a new Bill with regard to appointment of presiding officer at the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT).
The post of SAT presiding officer fell vacant in November 2011. Since suitable candidates could not be immediately found, Sebi Act was amended by way of an ordinance to include sitting or retired High Court judges with at least seven years experience as one of the qualifications for the post.
To introduce a new Bill to replace the ordinance regarding appointment of SAT presiding officer, the government today withdrew the old Bill from the Rajya Sabha today.
Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena withdrew "the Bill further to amend the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992, which was passed by the Rajya Sabha on March 11, 2013, and laid on the Table of the Lok Sabha on March 12, 2013".

UPSC releases sample questions of new
paper
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released
sample questions of the newly introduced paper on Ethics, Integrity and
Aptitude for the Civil Services Examination.
The sample questions are now available on the website www.upsc.gov.in.
CHANGES IN SYLLABUS
The UPSC had made several changes in the syllabus
of the Civil Services Main Examination this year.
Apart from making it more contemporary and comprehensive
in traditional areas it had introduced a new paper “Ethics Integrity and
Aptitude”.
Aspirants were waiting for some guidance on the paper and the sample questions would give them an idea about the exam paper . iv. “The sample questions appear to relate to common dilemmas faced by any individual.
The questions seem to be designed to test the reactions
of the aspirant to various ethical dilemmas that all of us confront on a
regular basis,” said Gopala Krishna, Director, Brain Tree.

NGO Stri Shakti providing mid-day meal to wind up operations
in Punjab
In Punjab, fearing trouble from some anti-social
elements, Stri Shakti, an NGO providing mid-day meal in six districts has
decided to wind up their operations.
Ferozepur and Fazilka would be the first two districts
where the operations would be stopped from tomorrow onwards. In other four
districts-Nawanshehar, Moga, Sangrur and Mohali- the NGO will withdraw their
services by September.

बोर्ड के इस आदेश से इस बात की संभावना बढ़ गई है कि आरआरबी के जरिए इन पदों पर भर्ती जल्द खुलेगी। पिछले करीब दशक से मिनिस्टीरियल कैडर में आने वाले जूनियर क्लर्क, सीनियर क्लर्क, जूनियर एकाउंट असिस्टेंट और एकाउंट क्लर्क के पदों पर भर्ती नहीं हुई।
जोनल रेलवे के अफसर रेलवे बोर्ड का स्पष्ट निर्देश न होने का हवाला देकर हजारों की संख्या में रिक्त हो चुके बाबुओं के पदों पर भर्ती रोके हुए हैं। इसके साथ ही फ्रीज किए गए पदों पर दिसंबर 2013 तक भर्तियों पर रोक बढ़ा दी है।
रेलवे के वाणिज्य, लेखा, स्टोर, सामान्य प्रशासन और कार्मिक विभाग में मिनिस्टीरियल कैडर के कर्मचारियों की भरमार है लेकिन पिछले दशक से खुली भर्तियां न होने के कारण इन विभागों में भर्तियां नहीं हुईं।
इलेक्ट्रिकल, मेकेनिकल, सिगनल समेत दूसरे विभागों में क्लर्कों की संख्या कम है लेकिन भर्ती न होने के कारण इनमें भी परेशानी बढ़ी है। इसे लेकर रेलवे ने कभी यह साफ नहीं किया कि भर्तियों पर रोक है या नहीं।
रेलवे बोर्ड के निदेशक स्थापना हर्षा दास ने एनसीआर समेत सभी जोनों, प्रोडक्शन यूनिट्स और रेलवे भर्ती बोर्ड को चिट्ठी भेजा है। इसमें साफ कहा है कि रोक सभी पदों के लिए नहीं है।
सन 1991 में भर्तियों पर लगाई गई रोक केवल 25 फीसदी सीलिंग लिमिट तक है। अन्य रिक्त पदों पर भर्तियों शुरू की जा सकती हैं।
