Guardian to share Snowden files with New York Times
The Guardian has said it will share with The New York Times (NYT) some of the sensitive documents passed on by the whistleblower Edward Snowden to columnist Glenn Greenwald and film maker Laura Poitras.
The Guardian has forged partnerships with other media publications to put information in the public domain.
The two most recent official attempts at preventing the newspaper from pursuing its exposure of secret surveillance mechanisms by the U.K. and U.S. governments appears to have been the immediate provocation for the decision to collaborate with the NYT.
With in two months ago, The Guardian was forced to allow the destruction of computer equipment under the supervision of security officials in the basement of its offices in Kings Place.
With Liberal Democratic leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg distancing himself from the detention of Mr. Miranda — he was not consulted about the police action, he has claimed — the case would appear to hang on the report of the Independent Reviewer of Terror Legislation David Anderson QC.

Confident Brazil will host successful World Cup: FIFA Chief
The head of World Footbal's governing body FIFA says
he is increasingly confident that Brazil will host a successful 2014 World
Cup.
Speaking after inspection tour of the host cities
in Brazil, Jerome Valcke believes the six stadiums, still under construction,
will be ready on time.
The 20th FIFA World Cup tournament is scheduled to
take place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014. This is the second time
Brazil is hosting the competition.
OVL to buy Anadarko's 10% stake in Mozambique field for $2.6 billion
This is the fourth acquisition by the state-owned firm in a year.
OVL in September last year completed acquisition of Hess Corp's 2.7 per cent stake in Azerbaijan's largest oil field and an associated pipeline for $1 billion.
Last November, it announced a $5 billion purchase of ConocoPhillips's 8.4 per cent stake in Kazakhstan's Kashagan project, touted as the biggest oil find since the 1960s when it was discovered in 2000.
Sources said OVL has also acquired two blocks each in Columbia and Bangladesh and is mulling exercising its pre-emption rights to block China's Sinochem Group from buying 35 per cent interest in Brazilian oilfields for $1.54 billion.

I&B requested to TRAI: Expedite advice on
sectoral caps of FDI in Broadcasting Sector
Information and Broadcasting Ministry has requested
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to expedite its advice on the
existing sectoral caps of FDI in Broadcasting Sector.
It has also requested the Press Council of India (PCI)
to expedite its advice on the proposal to increase the FDI in Print
Media.
In its communication to TRAI and PCI, the Ministry has
sought comments regarding the paper prepared by the Finance Ministry relating
to revision in existing FDI caps in the sectors.
The Finance Ministry has proposed to raise the existing
FDI cap of 26 percent which is through Foreign Investment Promotion Board
(FIPB) route to 49 percent through automatic route in the news sector.
In the non-news sector, the existing FDI cap is 100
percent through FIPB route which has been proposed to be 100 percent through
automatic route without the requirement of FIPB’s approval.
