Foreign Minister of Republic of Chad
visited India
Moussa Faki Mahamat,
Minister for Foreign Affairs and African Integration of Republic of Chad, paid
an official visit to India.
The visit was aimed at increasing bilateral cooperation
between the India and Chad.
Relations between India and Chad remain cordial and
there is considerable goodwill and admiration for India.
There is large scope
for mutually beneficial co-operation in hydrocarbon, infrastructure and
capacity building sectors.
Chad is a member of TEAM-9 (Techno-Economic Approach for
African Movement) initiative comprising of eight West and Central African
countries seeking to benefit in technical and economic spheres through
cooperation with India. Chad has been a beneficiary of India Line of
Credit of US$ 50 million for five projects which they highly appreciate.
ICC suspends 7 in BPL fixing scandal
Cracking down on
corruption in the Bangladesh Premier League, the ICC on Tuesday provisionally
suspended seven unnamed individuals for match-fixing-related offences while two
others were charged for failing to report "corrupt approaches" that
were made to them.
Refusing to divulge the names of the nine individuals,
the ICC said disciplinary proceedings have been instituted against them and
their identities would be revealed only after the conclusion of the entire
process.

The International Cricket Council and the Bangladesh
Cricket Board today announced that following a comprehensive investigation
carried out by the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, nine individuals
have been charged with various offences that are alleged to have been committed
under the BCB's Anti-Corruption Code during the 2013 Bangladesh Premier
League
As the custodians of the sport in Bangladesh, it
is the responsibility of the BCB to protect its integrity for all those who
engage in any way with the sport of cricket, whether players, spectators,
broadcasters, sponsors or otherwise.
Vijay Singh named for top US environmental award
An Indian-American
professor of biological and agricultural engineering has been recognised for
lifetime achievement by a top US environmental and water resources institute.
Vijay Singh, professor and Caroline & William N.
Lehrer Distinguished Chair in the Department of Biological and Agricultural
Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been named as a recipient of the
2013 Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers
Environmental and Water Resources Institute (ASCE-EWRI).
He was born in Agra, India, July 15, 1946.
He acquired his Master of Science degree from the
University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, and then did his Ph.D. from the Colorado
State University.
Set up in 1999, the Environmental and Water Resources
Institute is a civil engineering specialty institute of the American Society of
Civil Engineers, the country's oldest national engineering society.
Marion Bartoli of France
announced her Retirement
French Lawn Tennis
Player and Wimbledon 2013 (Women’s Singles) winner Marion Bartoli announced her
retirement on 14 August 2013, during the Western & Southern Open at Lindner
Family Tennis Centre in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She announced the
retirement after losing in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters to
Romania's Simona Halep. Bartoli is 28-years-old.
Bartoli, won over 11
million US dollars in prize money during her 13-year career. She is ranked
seventh in the world.
Bartoli, turned
professional in the year 2000 and was coached most of her career by her father,
Walter, who is a doctor.
Besides Wimbledon 2013,
Bartoli won seven other WTA Tour titles, the first one was in Auckland in 2006.
Recently she won two tournaments both in 2011 at Eastbourne and Osaka, Japan,
prior to Wimbledon.
New Pension System for
low income group in Assam
Swavalamban Pension
Scheme for all citizens of low income group in Assam will be implemented by the
government in a phased manner beginning from the Social Welfare Department for
Anganwadi workers, official sources said today.
Under the scheme, a
subscriber with a minimum contribution of Rs 1000 yearly will get Rs 1000
contribution from the government and the fund required for this will be
provided by the central government, the sources said.
The facility for
investment of the pension fund of the individual subscriber would be provided
by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) through
different Pension Fund Managers, they said.
New Pension Scheme (NPS)
is extended by the central government to all citizens from the weaker and
economically disadvantaged sections with limited investment potential under the
Swavalamban Scheme for those who are not covered by any other Pension Scheme.
TV18 Broadcast Cuts off
300 employees

channels among others, has laid off close to 300 employees, include senior
journalists and anchors.
Among those who have
been laid off include senior journalists and anchors.
The news
channels—CNNIBN, IBN7 and CNBC-TV18—together employ close to 2,000. These
cannels compete with those run by Bennett, Coleman &Co, the publisher of ET
and The Times of India.
Paralympian Gayakwad
finishes 7th in World C'ships
Paralympic swimmer
Sharath Gayakwad has finished seventh in the 100m breastroke finals at the IPC
World Swimming Championships in Montreal, Canada.
Sharath, sporting the
Speedo Fastskin 3 Racing System, clocked a time of 1:18.81 minutes at the
event.
At the event, World
Record holder, Ukranian Andriy Kalyna won the gold medal after clocking a speed
of 1:07.05 minutes.
Austrian Andreas Onea
won silver and Krzysztof Paterka from Poland settled for the bronze.
