ICC granted Associate Membership
to Afghanistan
Afghanistan was granted the Associate membership of
the ICC, making it the eighth Asian nation and the 38th overall to get the
status.
Looking at the immense progress shown by
Afghanistan, the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) had last year sent the nomination
request in 2012 and the decision to grant Afghanistan the status was taken by
the ICC at its ongoing annual conference, which concluded in London on 29 June
2013.
Afghanistan now join Hong Kong (1969), Kuwait
(2005), Malaysia (1967), Nepal (1996), Singapore (1974), Thailand (2005) and
UAE (1990) as ICC Associates from the Asian region.
The new Associate membership will help Afghanistan
get more funds from the ICC and also give much-needed exposure to the team.
The ICC is now likely to pay Afghanistan 850000
US dollars based on the Associate status, instead of 700000 US dollars as
the annual fund.
WTO refuses Indian request to throw out US trade dispute
India has failed to persuade the World Trade Organization (WTO) to dismiss a trade complaint brought by the United States
The United States launched the legal challenge at the world trade body in March 2012, contesting Indian restrictions on imports of poultry, pigs and related products.
India says its checks on U.S. imports are justified by concerns about bird flu, but the United States argues the rules are a "disguised" illegal restriction on foreign trade and not backed by science.
India tried to have the U.S. complaint dismissed on technical objections, including that the allegation was not precise enough and did not spell out the legal argument.

Friction between the two countries is a major obstacle to a global trade deal being negotiated by all of the WTO's 159 members. The deal aims to slash red tape that is costing trade hundreds of billions of dollars a year.

crowned with prestigious award
Healthcare Economist
Dr Mukesh Hariawala was recently conferred the prestigious ‘Indian
Healthcare Visionary of the Decade’ award at a glittering ceremony of the
4th Annual Business Leadership Conclave at Hotel Leela in Mumbai.
Dr Hariawala delivered a spirited keynote lecture to a packed audience where he convincingly laid out a 100 Billion Dollar Medical Tourism opportunity for India as a byproduct of US President Barack Obama's new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which unofficially is also termed ‘Obamacare’.
This new law signed in 2010 would change the
ecosystem in the US, moving gradually from the existing capitalistic high
quality healthcare with no Waiting Periods to a socialized government
controlled form of healthcare as prevalent in the UK and Canada.
Unveiling a unique and novel customized universal health
insurance model for all 1.2 billion Indians calling it ‘Womb to Tomb’, this

community particularly, as it would not only cover all Indians but also bring
in FDI investment funds from US insurance giants who could establish
partnership models with current Indian health insurance companies.

industrialists Ratan Tata , Transformational Leader of the Decade and Mukesh
Ambani who is the Millennium Business Leader of the Decad.
India to host Test Championship in 2021, T20 Cup in 2016
India, it will host the World Twenty 20 Cup competition in
2016 and World Test Championship 2021, both for the first time, and the 50-over
World Cup for the fourth time in 2023, the International Cricket Council (ICC)
announced in London on Saturday.
According to an ICC media release, the first edition of the
World Test Championship will be staged in 2017 by England and Wales Cricket
Board (ECB) in June-July 2017 while the second edition will be held in India in
February-March 2021.
ICC's chief executive David Richardson also put speculation
to rest about ICC Champions Trophy being continued.
"The ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales was
highly acclaimed and appreciated by all. However, the principle of one pinnacle
global event for each of the three formats over a four-year cycle is a good one
and, as such, the ICC Board has agreed to replace the Champions Trophy with the
ICC World Test Championship," Richardson was quoted as saying in the press
release.
The ECB will also host the 2019 World Cup and Cricket
Australia (CA) got the right to host the 2020 World Twenty20.
The ICC Board supported the strategy of ensuring an optimum
balance between the three formats of the game -- especially Test cricket -- and
approved the recommendation that the full member-countries should play a
minimum of 16 Tests in each four-year cycle.
In order to ensure that all ODIs played over the four-year
cycle between ICC Cricket World Cups count towards a team’s ranking, the ICC
Board agreed to change the ODI rankings period from three years to four years.
