Sahara India to adopt 1,000 villages for all round
development
The Sahara India group has announced adoption of 1,000

25 lakh people in seven states.
Under the VEDAS project,
the adopted villages will be provided water purification plants for safe
drinking water which would be distributed through water ATMs, 500 education
resource centres with interactive classrooms would be set up.

regular basis through fleets of Mobile
Health Unit (MHU) vans which would be augmented with medical center for
serious cases at central point village, with each center catering to a cluster
of around 50 villages within its immediate vicinity.

RBI fines HDFC Bank, Axis & ICICI Rs 1 to 5

ii. “After considering the facts of each case ... Reserve
Bank came to conclusion that some of the violations were substantiated and
warranted imposition of monetary penalty...” the central bank said in a
statement.
iii. RBI imposed a penalty of Rs 5 crore on Axis Bank, Rs
4.5 crore on HDFC Bank and Rs 1 crore on ICICI Bank.
iv. The penalty follows scrutiny carried out by RBI of books
of accounts, internal control, compliance systems and processes of these three
banks at their corporate offices and some branches during March and April this
year.The scrutiny was conducted to investigate into the
allegations of contravention of Know Your Customer KYC,anti-money laundering
guidelines against them following expose by online portal Cobrapost.
RBI had launched the investigation into the working
of banks following the expose by Cobrapost which showed some bankers
giving suggestions to customers on ways to bypass regulatory norms.

account number (PAN) card details or form 60/61 and verify the source of funds
credited to a few non-resident ordinary (NRO) accounts.
iii. The first expose had named ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and
HDFC Bank. Later scores of other public and private sector banks and insurance
companies figured in the expose.

government has decided to launch a new health scheme from 1st of next

v. State Health Minister Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma said that
the new scheme will extend financial support to BPL families up to 5 thousand
rupees for Radiological investigation like X-Ray, City Scan, MRI.The new scheme will enhance the medical benefits to the
weaker section of the society along the RSBY.
Railways to launch SMS-based service
for hygiene complaints
ii. Set to launch on a few select trains, the service will
facilitate passengers to contact the onboard staff via SMS or phone-call, in
order to complain regarding cleanliness in coaches, toilets and other problems
faced during the journey.
iii. A senior Railway Ministry official has said that, an On-site
Passenger Complaint Redressal System (OPCRS) is being developed as envisaged in
the Rail Budget 2013-14.
iv. The service is likely to be launched, in either Mumbai
Rajdhani or Bangalore Rajdhani as a pilot project soon.
v. "Passengers will SMS his PNR on a common number like
one being used for PNR inquiry," the official said.
vi. The Railways, have asked for a three-digit number from
the Department of Telecommunication for the purpose.
vii. Once the SMS is sent, the information will be
registered on OPCRS connected with GSM network, and it will be immediately
routed to mobile phone available with housekeeping supervisor on train.

BCCI suspends Raj Kundra
i. Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra was suspended by the
BCCI on charges of gambling during IPL 6 matches
ii. "The Working Committee today decided to suspend Raj
Kundra on allegations of gambling on IPL VI matches till the pendency of
inquiry," a senior working committee member and BCCI office-bearer said in
New Delhi on Monday.
iii. "Kundra will be debarred from taking part in any
cricketing activity related to Rajasthan Royals which effectively means that he
won't be seen during Rajasthan Royals matches in the upcoming Champions League
Twenty20 in September," he said.
iv. The Board's head of the interim arrangement, Jagmohan
Dalimya, was forced to call the meeting after the Delhi Police claimed that
Kundra, a minority (11.7 percent) shareholder in Rajasthan Royals, had
confessed to betting during the IPL matches.
v. In another decision, the BCCI Working Committee agreed
that the two-member panel -- comprising Justice T Jayaram Chouta and Justice R
Balasubramanian -- which is currently investigating Meiyappan and CSK would
also probe Kundra and Rajasthan Royals.
Apple introduces OS X Mavericks for Macs, new Pro
Apple began its product showcase by announcing a new operating system for the Mac called "Mavericks," moving away from its penchant for naming its computer software after big cats. The new OS can now handle multiple display and "tagging" of documents, among other new features. Tim Cook kicked off Apple's 24th annual developers conference in San Francisco. OSX Mavericks will be released in the fall.
Craig Federighi, the company's senior vice president for software engineering, announced the latest version of its OSX operating system, named Mavericks. Some of the new features of this update are improved document finding capability called Finder, tagging, support for multiple displays and improved battery life and processor performance.
"The MacBook has continued to define the future of the notebook. It's the number one notebook in the US, " Apple CEO Tim Cook claimed.
