New law to be enacted to prosecute sea pirates: Govt to SC
Centre today informed the Supreme Court that it will soon bring a legislation to ensure effective prosecution of pirates and taking all possible steps to bring back Indian seamen who are being held hostages.

Protest against cut in PDS rice

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has demanded that the government decision to reduce ration rice by six kg a month for below poverty line (BPL) cardholders and 4.5 kg a month for above poverty line (APL) cardholders be withdrawn.
CPI legislature party leader C. Divakaran also expressed concern that the price of rice would go up in the coming days. While Prof. Thomas said that Kerala had not lifted the rice allocated to it, Mr. Jacob was maintaining that the State was not getting its quota.

Germany expresses interest in investing in DMIC project

Germany has expressed interest in investing in India’s ambitious USD 90 billion Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) after New Delhi made special presentation on the project to investors
DMIC is aimed at creating mega industrial infrastructure along the Delhi-Mumbai Rail Freight Corridor, which is under implementation.
Japan has committed to invest USD 4.5 billion in this project. The Union Cabinet had approved an expenditure of Rs 18,500 crore on development of infrastructure for the project.
The new corridor planned between Mumbai and Bangalore likewise also opens up interesting prospects for Indo-German cooperation.

RBI penalises JP Morgan Chase for violating risk-mgnmt norms


The Reserve Bank today imposed a penalty of Rs 5 lakh on US banking major JP Morgan Chase for violation of various norms including risk-management guidelines.

"The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 5 lakh on JP Morgan Chase, N.A., Mumbai (the bank)..." the central bank said in a statement.

The penalty on the bank is for "contraventions of various directions and instructions issued by the Reserve Bank in respect of Risk Management and Inter Bank Dealings and Compliance Functions".

RBI has imposed the penalty under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

 Honda to launch new generation Jazz next year

Japanese auto major Honda today said it plans to roll out a new generation Jazz next year.

Its first diesel offering, sedan Amaze, has been priced between Rs 5.10 lakh and Rs 7.64 lakh

Currently, the company sells five models in the domestic market: sedans Accord and City, utility vehicle CRV, and hatchbacks Brio and Jazz, apart from the latest Amaze which also comes in petrol variant.


The company, which produced 6,600 units of Jazz last year, has temporarily suspended its production since February, said Sen, adding it had also stopped production of Civic last year.
