Nepali parties agree on CJ’s appointment as PM
Nine months after the Constituent Assembly (CA) lapsed
without writing a constitution, four of Nepal’s major political forces signed an agreement to hold elections for
another Constituent Assembly (CA) under a government led by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi.
The parties — NC; UCPN (Maoist); CPN (UML); UDMF, aim to hold the elections by June 21, but the agreement contains provisions to postpone the election date to December if necessary.

Mr. Regmi, who will take a temporary leave from the Supreme
Court, will form an 11-member council of ministers to hold elections.
The new Assembly will have 491 members — 240 to elected through direct (first past the post) election; 240 through proportional representation; and 11 nominated by the Cabinet.
The parties also decided to retain the electoral constituencies delineated for the last Assembly election in 2008.
