Ela Bhatt honoured with Indira Gandhi award
Elaben Bhatt, was awarded the prestigious Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development 2011 by President Pranab Mukherjee for her lifetime achievements in empowering women through grassroots entrepreneurship. Bhatt, the founder of Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA), was conferred the prize for 2011 in presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The prize carries a citation and a cash award of Rs 25 lakh.
