1. India, Pakistan ink liberal visa agreement

India and Pakistan signed liberal visa agreement. The agreement was signed by External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and Interior Minister Rehman Malik . The new visa regime — the first major overhaul since 1974 — in particular eases travel restrictions for businessmen and introduces a new category of group tourism. Besides, persons aged above 65 will be issued visa on arrival. From the earlier indefinite time taken to issue a visa, the two missions have now been tied down to a 45-day period for deciding on an application. Now visitors can enter and exit the country from different checkpoints and change the mode of travel. Earlier, the port of entry and exit had to be the same.

2. World Bank okays $106 million nutrition credit

The World Bank has approved a $106-million credit, representing the first part of a two-phase loan to support India’s efforts to improve the nutritional outcome for children under six, with particular focus on 0-3-year-olds.

The students and staff of Nikita Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Nikita School of International Studies were in a jubilant mood as the inspection officers from Elite World Records (U.K) Private Limited, Asian Records Academy, Singapore, and Indian Records Academy, Mumbai, certified three more world records attempted by them. The school had broken three world records. A social cause was chosen as the theme for each event. To spread the message of elimination of child labour, V. Divakar, Standard X student of Nikita Matriculation Higher Secondary School, designed a footprint painting which won the title of ‘Largest Footprint Painting by an Individual (Male)’. The thumbnail painting on the theme of preventing global warming was done by around 2,000 participants. The pencil sketching done on a 900-metre paper was carried out by a team of 388 members comprising students and teachers. The theme of the event was ‘Nurture Nature to Ensure Secure Future’.

Casting off from Kochi, the vessel will take 10 days to dock at Chennai before pulling a stop at 13 foreign ports across nine nations in a bid to bolster friendship across the seas.

9. Rule changes a challenge for sub-continent players

The ‘own goal’ concept introduced by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in the rule books for 2013 may interest the keen followers of the sport. According to Rule 8.1, which deals with the method of scoring, the way a goal is scored has been amended; it now includes what is sometimes referred to as an ‘own goal.’ That is a goal can be scored after the ball is touched in the circle by either an attacker or a defender. The other rule change is the ‘procedures for taking a free hit, centre pass and putting the back into play.’ As per the new rule (Rules 13.2 d and e), the ball may now be raised intentionally and directly using a push, flick or scoop action; this action must be conducted safely. This is essentially an evolution of what is known as the self-pass from a free hit. By having the option to raise the ball immediately, opposing players will not have the opportunity to get closer than five metres.
