India will need 1,450 new planes by 2031’
As per US aircraft
manufacturer Boeing India will have the highest passenger traffic growth in the
world and will need 1,450 new planes worth $175 billion by 2031. Last year the
company had forecast that India would need 1,320 passenger planes worth $150
billion up to 2030.

for its commitment to save tiger
The New York-based
Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has commended India's commitment to save
tiger. According to the tiger census report released on March 28, 2011 by the
National Tiger Conservation Authority in India, the current tiger population
was estimated at 1,706 (i.e. ranging between a minimum of 1,571 to a maximum of
1,875). The organisation also noted the efforts of the Thai Government in
taking responsibility for protecting its tigers by taking bold steps to
overcome the poaching pressures in the Western Forest Complex.

UNDP plans sustainable development programme

Development Programme (UNDP) is working on a detailed project report for a
Rs.100-crore programme aimed at promoting sustainable development and
addressing the challenges of climate change in Munnar. Named Sustainable
Multiple Use Management of Mountain Landscapes in Kerala, the programme is to
be implemented as a joint initiative of the UNDP and the Global Environment
Fund (GEF), through the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the State
government.

Six years after
Nepal’s Maoists entered open politics and signed a peace treaty, the United
States has finally lifted its “terrorist” tag for the country’s ruling party.

Air India would
establish its two subsidiaries — Air India Engineering Services Ltd. (AIESL)
and Air India Transport Services Ltd. (AITSL). AIESL would carry out the
maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) business, not only for Air India but
also for other airlines, and tap the potential of the nearly $1.5-billion MRO
business in the Asia-Pacific Region. At present, Indian carriers have to send
most of their planes to Europe and even Dubai and Singapore to get them
repaired or for mandatory checks.

Microsoft unveils Windows Server 2012

Microsoft has
announced general availability of Windows Server 2012, a first of its kind
version of operating system (OS) that can be controlled remotely. The launch of
the cloud-based operating system is a major step by the IT major enabling easy
management of large clusters of servers, and is the first major update of its
operating system since 2009. The system allows maximising the use of cloud
computing with reliability, scalability and in-built performance capabilities.
The Hyper-V, virtualisation component built into the new system, is set to
support 64 virtual servers with memory up to 1 TB. This was a marked
improvement over the existing system which supported four virtual processors
with a memory of 64 GB.
